VW 412
Itis a pity that this car will be produced for only one year, but maybe that increases its value even as classic car. There is little criticism expressed at this type, in any case what the durability e.g. of the body concerns. Principal disadvantages are of course the high fuel consumption, which now no longer fits in 1974 and by a standard (!) auxiliary heating is increased even further. The sensitivity for wind with few loading is not to be tolerated.
The low top speed of 145 km/h for this category of vehicle, the increase in capacity and more by trying to increase performance, one tries to increase by enlargement of the displacement and performance increase on just 150 km/h. At the same time the engine is made more sturdy through a package of measures. However, the large back door remains reserved to the Variant. Nevertheless the 411 is as the first Volkswagen with optional four doors decade(s) too late. Pity, because some in the construction is ahead of the competition. Ford builds even sports cars with a rigid driven rear axle, while VW already uses a modern double joint axle. The big VW is suspended comfortable but still good-naturedly at driving errors, however, if it is not exaggerating. Thereby the steering is inherently light despite the usual in this class lack of servo assistance.
Especially with the 412 one gives special effort with the "nose correction". Profiles in the hood and bevels in the front, bumper and turn signals set higher and other linings for the headlights give the front a bit more delicate appearance. Only, it's all for nothing. The early end is inevitable. Appearing in 1973, the VW Passat can do better almost everything and is cheaper to produce.
