Finally, there have also figured the VW-developers, a very small car needs to be designed with passion, even if the form as a whole remains relatively rational, Fiat has already done so several times. Because there it is not sufficient, to import a Brazilian "plant" as the Fox. Especially people with little money want to feel the labour one makes with them or the product offered.

The dashboard a little reminiscent of the Beetle ...

Perhaps it will be indeed the formula for success of the Up to deliver little spectacular, but this with VW quality. Muchsheet metal on the dashboard, and even at the doors, but still smart done and recklessness nowhere. After all, the Up must compete against powerful rivalry, which has even had a long lead time. However, to be almost the last, VW has never terrified and not infrequently initiated a giant catch-up race, see, eg, Touran.

Where does the name come from? One might think it has simly flown to the developers. If there would not exist the parallel caseof the newer Scirocco, in the meantime even has been named Iroc. This could have created the name Up by omitting the first and last letter from the 'Lupo' and because this was too little for the ambitioned brainstormers at VW, one has yet put an exclamation point there.

Beautiful is the completely stowable passenger backrest ...

Now, however, comes slowly an end to this trick, because at the 'Golf', 'Touran', 'Tiguan', 'Passat' and 'Phaeton' it should not be particularly successful. After all, it goes up with the urgently needed small car segment, which originates not only from the naming. As you can see in the videos below are already planned some enlargements of the model series, not to mention the mini-models of the parent companies, the want to underbid the cheapest Up with around 1000 €.

The cheapest Up! there is only in white ...

There are of course possible for just under 10,000 € no wonder things at VW. Since then the steering wheel is not extricable, the glove compartment is open and the rear seat bench unsplitted, plus restrictions on the window lifters, seat adjustment and the central locking. At least there's no compromise on safety, what e.g. regard airbags and ESP. For a comparatively small surcharge will be offered navigation and air conditioning.

Is it worth the more powerful engine?

The first reviews praise ride comfort and noise level to be above average for this class. Also a small car must be no more suspended hard for the driving safety. The car brakes surprisingly good, even in spite of a small tyre footprint, perhaps also because of the low kerb weight, but what is more typical for VW quality and therefore not sensationally low. Not even bad the cW-value, the however, does not lead to a particularly low high speed driving consumption. Also the car is then at least not longer quiet.

Emergency brake up to 30 km/h possible ...

As a whole th entry can be described as successful. The Up is compared with the existing cars in this class although no wonder of space, but the wheelbase is e.g. still slightly larger than the of Golf 1 and Beetle, although both had significantly more external length. One can be curious at the natural gas and particularly the electric drive. 01/12

Blue-Motion, electric and natural gas drive yes, diesel engines no.

Who wants air conditioning, radio needs to take ...
