Brazil seems to be more and more important not only for VW. Both BMW and Mercedes announce in time for the Autosalon in Sao Paulo, the construction of factories, VW has there already five since 1953. New is the growing importance of Brazil and South America in total. There one sees reasons enough to present a study which already contains a few special features.

The name is apparently derived from the Tiguan, this time without all the trials and tribulations as it happened with its naming. Pure and simple, but still not comparable. After all, the new vehicle is more than half a meter shorter, albeit at relatively generous wheelbase. Then, the Tiguan was delivered, at least in its early days with only four-wheel drive, only without the Taigun.

From the substructure it is thus a high mounted polo with terrain optics. And of course, the short overhangs front and rear fit quite well. And the costs are also within the scope. At least from the outside, the car is so few specific Brazilian hat it would offered in the case of series production probably across borders.

Interesting is the idea of a tailgate divided in two parts, this one so do not find in this (price) class. Deviating vehicles from the series versions today do not necessarily need another technique but something special, such as missing B-pillars (Ford B-Max) or something more exciting looks (Opel Mokka). There, the off-road look of the Taigun can keep up well.

Of course, the components should not be changed too much on the way to the series production. The dashboard will probably not remain like now, although some chic could not harm the VW models with as constant as possible ergonomics and quality. As a powerful two-door model with a high seating position and fat tyres the magnitude of success would actually depend only from the price.

Not unimportant is a look at the engine. Rapidly the development of the three-cylinder. We are now in regions of the first Golf GTI, but at a significantly higher torque. The improvements of aerodynamics, however, be repealed almost back at this car through the terrain look. Therefore, the nearly comparable top speed to the GTI.

Nevertheless, the engine is already a significant step toward downsizing. One can look forward to the 'sound'. If the kerb weight are actually in the now specified range from VW, 175 Nm could already produce a good acceleration. Six speeds and a lot of switching work can then indeed be replaced optionally by a direct shift gearbox.

Why, however, the undoubtedly from off-road use determined optics reflects 'the spirit of the time of our urban world', to me will long remain a mystery. 03/14               Top of page               Index
