This VW Beetle is a specimen of the year 1968. Although he was by a highly automated production of good quality, but technical lagged already behind its time. 40 HP the 1.3-liter rear engine developed. Except a synchronized first gear speed nothing essential had changed at the engine.Practically, the chassis was unchanged. Rear was still installed a swing axle. At the double crank axle in front were replaced the axle-pivots by ball- and socket joints with solid filling. Nevertheless, there remained four lubrication nipples. At extensive service operations every 2500 km practically not changed so much.
If you look at the windscreen, one can imagine the bad drag coefficient. Even otherwise, the body had been barely streamlined. But it was very stable and had just received additional special bumpers for better crash performance. The development was determined largely by exports to the USA.For the same reason even more rear lights were added. The in the model series '02 'and '03' changed underbody with trailing link rear is later taken back, so that the last in 2003 (in Mexico) produced Beetle had a double-joint swing axle. However, the exported Beetle to Europe and the United States was equipped with fuel injection and G-Kat in response to emission regulations.
