TTS now with four cylinders and 228 kW (310 HP)

The facelifted second generation can be recognised by the LED strips in the lower part of the headlamps, this functions either as a daytime driving light or as a turning indicator. Apart from that, the lower areas in front and at the rear have also been remodeled.

The soft-tops of the convertibles have developed an astonishing amount of resistance. It will be interesting to see, if in the near future, one of the folding-roof VW Eos convertibles will be done away with. Despite their unfavourable wind resistance, the soft-tops are still the most practical solution for a variable car-roof.

With its soft-top, which can be opened in 10 seconds at 50 km/h, the TT/TTS has more similarity with the original than the coupé does, with its more gentle flattening out towards the rear. Both variations differ in height by only 2 millimetres. Audi speaks of a particularly taut 'accoustic-top'. Nonetheless, at 39 kg it still weighs 3 kg less than that of its predecessor. It has its own compartment and doesn't influence the loading capacity; although with the roof closed, it does make more loading space available.

It would seem however, that a Diesel engine in the TT or in the convertible, doesn't appear to be ordered particularly often. In the Roadster or the coupé, only one can assert itself, and that, in only one model, that with a plain manual gearbox and without all-wheel drive. Let's hope it doesn't disappear completely, now that it seems to have rehabilitated itself by conforming to the Euro-6 exhaust gas standards.

The most reasonable Roadster has a price tag which is €2.900 more than the cheapest coupé, and it has to carry 90 kg more weight. As far as wind resistance and consumption are concerned, the differences are not that much, it probably does have a lower CO2-value than if the TTS-engine were to be chosen. Then however, at €12.000 more, it's really expensive.

Magnetic Ride is available.

All that can be added now, is the all-wheel drive. At least the braking system has been suitably customized. The rear brake-discs are internally ventilated. Less loading space in the convertible is also ok, after all, we're talking about a real two-seater with relatively little luggage volume. Indeed, fresh-air fans will hardly see this as a disadvantage.

The first video below, as far as the realisation goes, is a wonderfully made commercial, The peace and quiet of doing some fishing, compared with the excitement of a thrilling trip in the TTS Roadster. One of the men is moaning about his constantly nagging wife, the other guy has an elegant solution to his partner's problem, he owns a TTS Roadster. 02/15
