Although he has almost the same type designation, the 170 V is quite different from the Mercedes 170 from the year 1931. The engine distributes the same displacement (hence the model designation) on only four cylinders. At the same time the body will be much more modern. There must be attached no longer a suitcase, but the car has an externally accessible trunk. First still with the spare tyre in the cover, Later it has its place inside.
It achieved much higher sales numbers also in comparison to the same model with rear engine. Obviously, a Mercedes with rear engine falls flat and will never be constructed again. But the 170-V revives after the war again and forms the Basis for a number of descendants.
