It is the successor of the GLK. One wants to emphasize the affiliation to the C-Class with the change of 'K' to 'C'. With this model one finishes the complete renewal of the whole design of the brand Mercedes begun five years ago. The next will be again the A-Class with a facelift.
But who thinks that the advertising efforts of the group would slowly be less after this range of models, will disabused. Not less than 17 short videos were available, made during the presentation. With the Czech model Petra Nemcová there is even a brand ambassador for this Mercedes model. Background is probably that this is a SUV that rather aims to women as consumers.
For the first time, the world premiere takes place in the 'dematerialized' building of Hugo Boss in Metzingen. First models parade on the catwalk. Only then two GLCs follow, one with the dirt of the last journalists cross-country drive. Mercedes is working together with Boss already in Formula 1 from 2015 (2014er car in the video above), in golfing and sailing. Luxury for clothing and for cars has always been a good harmony. Except design, the 'new' luxury should be 'approachable' and 'somewhat reduced'. There one aims well to the next lowest income bracket.
The facts speak for something smaller SUVs in a still growing market. The GLK was in this segment the most sold, a total of 650,000 times since 2008. The 'GL' stands for its off-road capability. Below it resides the 'GLA' and above the 'GLE', yet supplemented by the 'GLS' as successor to the 'GL' in 2015. From the GLE there is already a coupé. The coupé from the GLC has just been presented as a prototype.
All GLs are based on the 4 MATIC. For the GLC this is the classic longitudinal engine with drive backward and branching forward immediately behind the transmission. Here also, the basic distribution of 45 to 55 percent is adjusted in favour of the rear axle. It is interesting that the multiple disk clutch can only distribute a certain basic torque of 50 Nm on the respective spinning axle.
Have a look at the interior equipment and the growing interior. Future owners can benefit from its self-parking if desired. Together with possible automatic creep speed in traffic jams a kind of semi-autonomous driving is already possible. Additionally new: The optional head-up display. On the pictures below you will find out a little more about the technology of the GLC, especially to the range of the individual sensors (Picture 1).
