A lightweight tubular frame it has already and (thereby conditionally) wing doors, not yet the direct injection. It is the first attempt of Mercedes, to gain a foothold in racing after the war. And namely with newly developed cars, because the pre-war models are probably no longer competitive. So this model, derived from the 300 sedan already drives quite successfully in 1952.
Of the 85 kW (115 HP) one moved away rapidly. The performance above mentioned, eg for the Panamericana is no longer true already. Here there are 3.1 liter displacement and at 8.7: 1 compression 169 kW (230 hp). The direct injection then brings much more, even with the smaller engine. It is preferred the experiments with compressor. Worth mentioning perhaps is still at this model the rear far extending lid as so-called 'air brake'. 01/14
