Quite clear at which Mercedes ties in with the SLK, to the SL 190. Both are the downsized versions of the the SL series. So would Super, Light and Kurz (short) apply for both a lot more. But so much more lightweight they are not. And besides, in case of the SLK, the cost factors are clearly in the foreground. It should facilitate the entry into the Mercedes sports car class, even and especially for the younger clientele.
The surprise is successful, but also thanks for a high proportion to the Klappdach (folding roof). Over time, it is available with a variety of engines with and without charger. As lightweight as it is, it delivers good driving performance and will an affordable sports car, either as (winterized) coupe or convertible. However, the original price will increase and the early SLK rather inundate the market for used cars, because it will have a long durability (without accident). 10/12
