Are legendary stories about the difficulties with which were obtained the engine from an ambulance and the rest of the vehicle. Not everything could be explained without some factory support. Even the engine tuning and testing fell under the heading 'adventurous', because building and testing did not take place at the same location. As well the fact that the car was pretty demolished a week before the race at the Hockenheimring.

There was talk of overtaking prestige on the long straight roads and comfort for the drivers due to power steering respectively air suspension. Hans Heyer, who drove the car with Clemens Schickedanz in Spa at that time, confirmed the presence of the air suspension. The Mercedes engineer in the video below, it denies. The magazine Auto Motor Sport has tested it at that time and again mentioned the air suspension. But there were probably two cars, perhaps one with and one without.

One also mentioned that in addition to the brake system, the tyres well were a weak point. In any case, for the hitherto completely unknown company the 24 Hours of Spa Francorchamps ended with the class win and the undoubtedly spectacular second place in the overall standings.

And even though the car not really excelled as a serial winner in this season, nevertheless, it had some good starting places, now in yellow colour of Hannen Alt. The next year it had to change to the Brands World Cup due to maximum 5 litres displacement at the European Touring Car Cup, but got not under control the basic problems of a not always appropriate technology for the weight of the vehicle.

The car ended at Matra, an aviation group with affinity to racing and for vehicle construction as an experimental object for enormous accelerations of jet fighters. The company AMG prospered because it sold henceforth owners of the already immensely powerful 300 SEL 6.3 Tuningkits up to almost 30 percent more power. Of course, the two company owners remained faithful to the racing. 05/15
