Granted it is a bit plucked, but one can see better his inner life. It consists of a crank shaft, on which each piston has its own crank pin.
Therewith this V engine is similar to the in-line engine, because in the the old definition the V-engine runs ever two connecting rods of the
opposite pistons on a crank pin. Why this position is a little outdated, read here.
Just above the crankshaft is the camshaft, which drives the valves via tappets, push rods and rocker arms. Besides the shaft with the
counterweights, which should resolve a more worse mass
balancing compared with the in-line engine what suceeds only moderately. It also drives to the coolant pump and generator. Why is this engine ever
constructed? Sometimes the European subsidiary company made it clear that the top management is based in the United States. Feel free to pursue
their own projects, if not something another is
planned from above. This half V eight-cylinder comes together with the failed attempt in the country of origin to a front-wheel drive (Ford
Cardinal).
Sometimes you have to exploit a project in any way. Thus, at least the engine found its place in the Corsair, Taunus, Transit, Granada, Zephyr and
Capri, additional in the Saab and Matra. Today it
sometimes substitutes in the Ro 80 and DKW Munga the particularly short constructed engines of classic cars. More validity and a longer
construction period had the similar V6 engine.
The engine comes a bit difficult out of the starting blocks. At first he is plagued by damage due to weak pistons and not clean working tappets.
After correction the engine is in great long-term tests
for the hero, rough but durable.
