The history of the Ford company is inseparably linked with Henry Ford. In 1863 he was born on a farm, but he had little affiliation with the at that time still very perspiring and little mechanized work there. Early on he moved to Detroit and acquired knowledge by practical work in different mechanical engineering companies. With 25 he married and started, besides his regular job, his own small workshop for experiments and the building of prototypes. Contrary to other inventors in for example Germany, he received an official permit for testing his prototypes on the Detroit roads.
The life of inventors and firm founders was not idyllic. Testing ones own creations creates more problems than moments of happiness. Usually there is nobody for advice. Companies were usually found with very little capital funds, although especially in the initial phase there is a large capital demand. One solution is to rely on partners, yet then one has to cope with their conceptions. In the case of Henry Ford his first company 'Detroit Automobile Company' was founded with $5000, but due to a lack of success it went to his partners and afterwards completely into the hands of the competitor (GM).
Finally, his racing successes and Henry Ford's idea of rationally building mass automobiles helped to establish the Ford Motor Company. Some of his political opinions were definitely problematical. The famous Modell T came out in 1908. After discharge of the production of the T-model, which was built rather unchanged with a sinking selling price, the company started producing the Modell A after a break of 7 month.
