At first sight the unusually slender form of the engine is striking. It does not become broader in the rear part, (on the right) because both camshafts are driven by spur gears. In front directly on the crankshaft the Roots blower is visible. Otherwise, the engine's exhaust side seems almost ordinary if it was not for a missing edge between cylinder block and the head. Indeed, both are joined by welding, a procedure which was at that time common for racing engines. Standard vehicles, not in the first place produced for racing, were also equipped with this engine, but without compressor or with just one camshaft and of course clearly less achievement.
