For other manufacturers even greater in series, it is quite usual in this time, to offer coupes by only a shortened roof based on the two-door car with inclined windscreen. Frameless windows are then the only change to the base body, but which is not to get two doors. Technically remains the Limousine with almost unmodified engines under the sheet metal. Yet often are reached through the often lower roof better driving performances.
The stroke-8 Coupe is not only more factual, it is also based on more rational manufacturing methods for the first time. For sostrongly based on the limousines coupes there were not yet at Daimler-Benz. Perhaps it is indeed the fact that one offersnow for two model series coupes. Will remain near the low headroom, especially on the rear seat, the design of a wide C-pillar in the absence of B-pillar and quite long rear fender a matter of taste.
Nice is that one can sink electrically the entire windows between A-and C-pillar for an extra charge. So creates a certain convertible flair. As is usual at Mercedes, the also lowered roof still can be equipped with sunroof, what makes the car definitely uncomfortable for tall people. Actually, one should here provide further back-sliding, deeper seats, but the waistline is the sedan and the entire dashboard area with the not then adjustable steering wheel.
For a Mercedes the surcharges remain moderate to the Coupe, particularly since at the stroke-8 models start a hitherto unknown surcharge policy. The coupe closely tied to the limousine does not survives these, especially since the oil price crisis of 1973-74 also their effect not missed. In conclusion, we noted, however, that still a lot of people the unusual design and the reduced space was worth the additional charge. 10/11
