Compared to usual sales numbers of Alfa Romeo and taking into consideration that it concerns a coupe, the car is very much in demand. This is due to the beautiful, and at the same time almost timeless shape, created by Bertone, fitting in perfectly with the other qualities of the car. It is the successor of the Giulietta that was built until 1962. For one year there was an intermediary model with the bodywork of the old predecessor, and already the technology of the new one.
The sprint GT makes use of the frame of the Giulia, shortened by about 13 cm, nevertheless, there is enough space for four seats and sufficient boot space. Car owners in Italy have to pay taxes according to the cubic capacity of their vehicle. Thus, it does not take long until 1,3 L variations with the name 'junior' are derived from the 1600 model. Of course, later on, also the possibilities for cubic capacities of 2 liters are used. The Spider was allowed the longest production span of the Giulia models.
