Enough is never enough, therefore, there is the automobile-tuning company. Excuse me, Alpina regards itself since 1983 as a car manufacturer. Therefore, 'Alpina' stands in the foreground and no longer 'BMW'. Anyways, Alpina combined BMW products to get this car, even though the engine has undergone drastic changes. It does not suffice just to mount a compressor on top of the eight-cylinder engine to generate performances comparable to the 12-cylinder (or more).

It is true that Burkhard Bovensiepen's path as a tuner for BMW vehicles already started with the BMW 1500. Since 1965 the company exists, distributing double carburetors. Among other things, racing successes create the supremacy before other companies (for example Hartge), which likewise concentrate on BMW. Alpina may regard itself as BMW's number one tuner. Of course, the success of BMW has also contributed. It does not seem to work out without a tuning partner. They are much more prone to find gaps in the model program, and are substantially more flexible. There were and will be numerous attempts of manufacturers to offer the lucrative business of especially well motorized and equipped cars themselves. Small series with a lot of manual labor are not exceptional, but the small- to medium-sized companies seem, nevertheless, to be better able to deliver this market. And as long as some customers have enough 'small change' in the pocket, there will be those individualistic vehicles.
