After two years of preparation, BMW returned in 2000 to the formula-1-racing. The Williams-Team - known for former racing drivers like Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna - became a partner. BMW performed its own engine design - in contrast to Mercedes. Drivers were Ralf Schumacher and Pablo Montoya. The most successful season was that of 2003, in which there was the chance to win the title up until the last two races. At the end they unfortunately did not even win the formula 1 world constructors' Championship (WCC). Since 2006, BMW and Williams separated. BMW took over the Swiss Formula 1 team Sauber.
