It is the successor of the Peugeot 407, but is generally also regarded as a replacement for the 607. The French car industry has lost completely the upper middle class. The HPA Group has the problem even twice, at Peugeot and Citroën. There one needed initially 5 years in order to launch the D6 as the successor of the XM and then one had to finish its production without successor in 2012.

The 607 Peugeot has also not been successful and shall now be represented by a significantly larger car than the 407.
