The 404 is - like many European models at that time - significantly after that of America designed fashion identifiable for example on the rear wing. Its front bonnet is already slightly ascending, aerodynamically correct. Remarkable is also the good all-round visibility by abundant glazing and narrow bars. The interior is compared with the 403 not actually much larger.
The engine has by a larger bore more displacement and engine power. It is before a brilliant career. The second last image shows it in action in desert areas. It has particularly obtained in North Africa a legendary fame in reliability. The last picture shows that it is almost not to break.
For the convenience there are special measures against too much drafts with open window/sliding roof and the first time child locks on rear doors. This model, incidentally as often at Peugeot until 1966 not intended as a replacement for the 40, is so successful that it is being built in France until 1975 and in Nigeria until 1989.
Although the car is more expensive in Germany as an Opel or Ford in this class, but even here it finds supporters. Among connoisseurs popular is the just really available injection from 1963 with 59 kW (80 hp), however it improved the engine in almost every aspect, particularly in tractive power and fuel consumption. Together with the offered ride comfort the car is almost unbeatable in this class. 09/09
