Year of manufacture1965 - 1980

The J7 celebrates its 50th anniversary. 339.000 were produced between 1965 and 1981. A curious vehicle, since purely to look at, it certainly was not one of the more attractive. However, it was practical, e.g., with its sliding doors. The front-wheel drive provided an even, deep and flat loading surface. It could even be had with 3-part rear doors. Admittedly, with their primitive mechanisms, they did resemble barn-doors. The rear bumpers could easily be repaired or replaced by any plumber.

Although it was more attractive, from a technical point of view the
VW-Transporter could definitely not match it. A Diesel engine was only offered from 1981 onwards and front-wheel drive from 1992. Indeed, VWs rear-engine was quieter for those up front than the somewhat rough-and-ready Peugeot engine, which was only shielded from the passengers by a simple cover. The petrol engines had a capacity of between 1,5 and 1,8 litres, the Diesel engines had 1,9 to 2,3 litres.

Even the predecessor, the D4, had front-wheel drive and a Diesel engine. Already this model could take on a particularly high pay load of 1500 kg. Peugeot presented the J7 with up to 200 different specifications and branch-solutions. In the meantime, the pay load had even been increased to 1800 kg. The panel-van had a loading space of 8,7 cubic metres and was almost three metres long. There was even a special version which offered 20,5 cubic metres of loading space. 07/15
