Really normal the development of this vehicle did not happen. While the upper middle class of German manufacturers in this period had excellent sales figures and was found an alleged niche one after the other and served, the French car manufacturers had to freeze their program.

Although the Peugeot 407 was launched reasonable. The offer was complemented by limousine, Station Wagon and coupé with upper class feeling until the spring of 2005. The engine range was perfectly adequate with six at the beginning and additional seven partially replacing engines during construction period.

And yet both, the 407 and the 607 were not manufactured furthermore from 2011 but replaced by the 508. The position for the Coupé for the time being remained unoccupied. As reasons for the crisis must be mentioned the financial crisis by 2008, the Peugeot could at least not compensate by special presence e.g. on the Chinese market.



Granted, the Peugeot Design has always been a little conservative. But that should actually fit to a upscale car class. Maybe the 407 is a bit too early for the newly awakened desire for the saloon with a notchback. Further, the processing in coincidence with an increased proportion of complaints was criticized, which of course also depressed the resale value.

Unfortunately applies to all three major French manufacturers that they occupy quite well the category of small cars up into the lower middle class. Here prevail rationality and affordable prices. But beyond, they can hardly score. There then did not benefit neither their diesel expertise nor the wonderful fixed panoramic roof of the 407 SW. 09/14
