After 16 years, Porsche returns with this vehicle to Le Mans and starts in the LMP1 class in 2014. Main opponents are Toyota and Audi. One also competes against the latter, although now belong to the same group of companies. The general managers obviously consider necessary the competition as a performance-enhancing instrument despite the additional costs.

They will be proved right because where Porsche (still) can not 'sail', does this the proven diesel technology from Audi. One of the more complex Porsche has finally made it to the top after 20 hours, but failed with defective drive shafts shortly after the driver change. Then it does not matter, if it manages to reach the paddock electrically.

A little later, the second 919 Hybrid has a transmission defect and lose its position 4. Only in the penultimate race of the season in Bahrain, one benefits of the hard work with the positions 2 and 3. The vehicles are fast enough, after all, one starts from the pole position.

And the eighth and final race of the season in Brazil gave reason for hope. Especially as the best Porsche ranked 8th. This time, both cars were in the fore after qualifying. But unfortunately Mark Webber crashed with his 919 shortly before the end of the 6-hour race in sixth position. He bounced in the last corner before the start-finish against the track boundary. Nevertheless, this not life-threatening accident was unhappily for the first overall victory for Porsche by the other 919. 11/14
