 Porsche 936 Le Mans
To say it immediately, the pictures above are from a 936, year of construction 1977 and the data from a of 1981. But once, a data set of a race car should be somewhat complete. If one knows that this car has won three
times Le Mans, not only the class win but also the overall victory, one may wonder why Porsche took the risk of 25 vehicles of the type 917 almost ten years earlier.
But since, one could probably not figure out yet what performances turbocharged six-cylinder could have, namely up to 662 kW (900 hp), while the also charged twelve-cylinder come well above 809 kW (1100 HP) at the
end. And yet one has used the Porsche 936 with "only" six cylinders and economized 84 kg already at the engine. However, due to the race distance was renounced on quite a lot of horsepower (see above). Despite or
perhaps because, the 936 has won Le Mans one time more than the 917.
Amazing things become apparent when one examines such a racing bolide more accurate. Almost funny the two seats prescribed by the regulations, for which it was in truth far too narrow due to the tanks. The engine was
to allocate neither the air nor the liquid cooling. It had simply both. Here you can find still a bit more about this particular type
of cooling.
Otherwise, you can say, the 936 won mainly because of its unproblematic operation. In principle, only refueling, brake and tyre changes were necessary at least during the last victory. 05/15
