Only the next model will be delivered with double clutch gearbox. But also this car`s converter automatic shows specific features. The manual gearboxes were always faster in the past but the automatic catches up since there is a bridging structure clutch in the converter which always remains closed after starting off.

Thus the multiple-disc clutches have the chance to move in or out nearly without delay, improving acceleration compared to a manual gearbox. This means quick start-off without dense smoke risk and, nevertheless, as fast as possible. Need another specific feature ? The automatic has two reverse gears, a low- gear-one for the cold start and a high-gear-one for the warm engine.

We have seen overboost with turbo-supercharging somewhere else already, but not certain 4WD – details. The visco clutch has been replaced by an electronically controlled and – unusual enough - electrically operated multiple-disc clutch. With this the front axle torque can be regulated variably up to 40 percent.

This is an essential step to an actively regulating torque distribution. In case of a quick start the front axle can be included in no time. Bit by bit this longitudinal barrier will take over even ESP duties. After all, acceleration for stabilising purposes has always been better than braking! 01/10
