Supplies Fiat actually to the car bicycles and surfboards? One gets the impression when you see the pictures provided. Of course, with this car you don't drive to work but immediately in leisure time. And it you stow the sports equipment on the roof, the vast interior is still available for the family and further utensils (pictures below). Only in this way is probably to explain Fiats slogan 'Active Family Space'.

All kidding aside, the Doblo is probably really popular, otherwise would have been sold not at all 1.4 million of the three generations until today. Of course, among them are also the used for commercial purposes only. Because without any job or income, life seems not to function.Then you also can not afford it.

The prices must remain moderate, because the Doblo competes eg with the Caddy, whose basic price is similiar. However, here it's worth a closer look. The disadvantage of Fiat is the outdated entry-level engine. It can not compete with VW's turbocharged direct injection engine. And this despite the Caddy is already more than four years old. But apart from that, the Fiat is lower priced.

Since the second sliding door is standard and the simple air-conditioning available, at least in the next expansion stage, at VW only the next but one. It's the same old story, who looses himself at VW in the extras, the better remains at Fiat.

However, there is no double-clutch transmission, but only the smallest diesel version with automatic clutch (Dualogic). But then it will be more expensive by coupling to a higher equipment package as with the VW solution. Both keep ready a natural gas version, VW, however, yet a car with liquefied petroleum gas.

But maybe the large body is the most important thing at this car. Here, the two basic versions are equally long to the millimetre, but Fiat offers next to the long version the with high roof as a temporary unique selling point. But one can buy at VW a four-wheel drive, if the way to the sport is too difficult.

Almost simultaneously VW announces the fourth generation of the VW Caddy, with even lower CO2 emissions engines and also at something reduced prices or improved in the equipment.

Main competitors are the Renault Kangoo Rapid with its twin Citan from Mercedes, although the does not quite reach the maximum length of the Doblo, but offers three alternatives in length. 02/15               Top of page               Index
