No, the 'L' does not denote the luxurious equipment of the existing 500. It marks more the attempt to use the for Fiat magic number '500' for a whole model series. Sun is in the 'L' so much more, more precisely a brand new car.

The normal Fiat 500 builds on the success of the Mini still in terms of rebirth of past successes, so the 500L is away from it however clearly. It is rather the third Multipla in the history of Fiat. The first was successful, the second is not, so it should go up again with the third.
