VersionHardtop with Targa-design

The convertible is traditionally called Spider at Fiat. This here is of special quality and with a Ferrari engine and provided with a small 'battery' of camshafts (4) and dual carburetors (3). In general at Ferrari is even fitted with twice the number of such carburetors. Thus one could speak for this engine of half a twelve-cylinder. The Spider is introduced 1966 - of course at the Turin Motor Show.

One needs courage to stop those quite round shapes and in front let end in two large but still very deep-set headlights. Pininfarina is the hero, who built at the shortened, but otherwise to the Coupe almost identical undercarriage a totally different other body. In fact you have to turn it around, because the Spider is earlier than the coupe by Bertone. It has, in contrast to this a much emotional character.

One has the feeling that this racehorse of engine more fit in the Spider, not only because of the design. Even the lower weight by simpler equipment is good for the capabilities of the engine. It can also speed up the car easily from below without special noise. If someone already after a long period of warming-up of 7 liters of oil, let rotate the engine at more than 8000 rpm, in order to be a brief second quicker to 100 km / h, is perhaps also willing to give up some comfort or knick-knack. So you miss the abundant arrangement of the five additional instruments between the speedometer and rotational-speed sensor and some more. With negative words this means savings, eg by imitation wood on the dashboard. This includes also artificial leather on the seats.

Positively evaluated a good price comes out at the end, even if one sit with this between two stools. For young hotspurs the vehicle is too expensive, for wealthy enthusiasts too cheap. In the running costs should still be included those for maintenance. Finally one can not make the - however than previously - simplified valve adjustment, the synchronization of the three double carburetor and the in vehicles without transistor necessary adjustment of ignition by replacing the spark plugs at any petrol station.

Who has ever decided to buy, a very lively car gets with matching steering, then for perceived high speeds capable, with a driving behavior in which is the rear rigid axle barely noticeable, the only part Fiat has really saved.
