The name 'Targa' probably originates from the good recollections of the company Porsche of the Targa Florio-racing in Sicily where, e.g., in 1956 the 550 A Spyder was successful. In 1965, Porsche presented its first 911 Targa. Typical features were the roll bar and the rear roof part with plastic window. For the rear roof there were two versions, firmly or likewise consisting of plastic. While driving open, the roof was hidden under the front bonnet. In 1969, the rear roof part was substituted by a firm window.
