BMW 525 i
The 5-series was the legitimate successor of all vehicles of the 'new class', whose name ended on '00'. The first edition of the 5-series evolved in 1972, the second edition in 1981. '5' stands for the class, thus it was larger than the 3-series. Both figures thereafter actually indicated the cubic capacity. Taking the 525, with a 2.5 Liter engine, it worked, but, nevertheless, due to some difficulties, it does no longer hold true for all models.
The above shown 5-series BMW, was the last one to show a slightly sticking out upper edge at the front. For aerodynamic reasons the front was aimed from then on the other way around. The rounded edges indicate it already. Still, typical was the four-eyes face. The 5-series traditionally offers the most extensive range of engines. It commences with the 1.8-liter four cylinder up to the 4-valve-6-cylinder in the M5. Also diesel engines are used very successfully.
