In principle, the former VW head of development has given up his job due to this model. He had meant Škoda should not get the new platform with the new Fabia as the first in the entire group. One should equip Škoda better with the slightly outdated technology. How good that the boss Piëch has prevailed and the A0-platform was finished in time.

You will have noticed, the Fabia was in contrast to his predecessor, the first complete VW model in the A-segment. There was yet an engine that was now virtually declared to VW inventory, but otherwise is strictly according to platform strategy all not visible technology identical to the later appearing Polo respectively Seat Ibiza or even larger models.
