The edition 3 of the RAV4 came at a bad time. It was during its development not yet so very to remark how much the number of competitors growed, the (wanted) to bustle in the field of light SUV. One has fitted all the electronic helpers now available and the car made larger and more comfortable in total.

This was no longer the youth to be addressed with colours and unusual layout. This was the family who loves freedom so much that the wanted to follow it in all directions with the car. There was still these permanent all-wheel drive, however, adjustable with respect to its torque distribution. However, it remained an easy-to-use vehicle for poorly visible terrain also.

However, this could now also at least one model of the other manufacturers, not only the Suzuki Vitara of the past. So one still won the comparison test in 2006, but not 2008. The RAV4 had become larger but its diesel engine introduced in the second generation 2000, can not quite keep up in the noise and the pulling power. Also the not enough adapted spring system and too weak brakes were criticized.

Whether as a result of the opinions of testers or other reasons such as e.g. increased pedestrian safety, in any case a facelift followed in 2009, in which the front was changed again. The petrol engine, changed in the second-generation, now optionally got a continuously variable transmission, and reintroduced the once given up front-wheel drive. 11/14
