Meanwhile, there has been an again modified version since the autumn of 54, where shark teeth in miniature are wandered upwards on a bar straight through the large mouth. The rear window has become larger and the rated speed decreased. With the next model change it is again increased with an increase in performance.
Of course, Opel adhered to the American core values. So the price is now now again declined to just under DM 5,000. There is even a cheaper version yet by 300 DM that the addition 'Rekord' loses and only maintain 'Olympia'. Here you can already guess that the former will be once of great significance for Opel. The cheap version is not different technically, just has a few chrome parts less, other seat covers and the old three-spoke steering wheel.
For 6,710 DM, there are both the convertible and the CarAVan version. The former is rarely sold, the latter more often. Here, the estate car is still urgently needed professionally. It will accompany the Olympia and later Rekord models also with special platforms.
But now we are in the year 1956/57, again with a modified version. We now have chrome grille up front and retain the optical proximity to the Kapitän. Meanwhile, the more expensive version has also lost the horns on the bumper, but has become a bit more expensive anyway. 3.7 kW (5 hp) more create better acceleration. The 120 km/h can be significantly better to hold out now.
Obviously the service also plays a role, so the local workshop. In the reliability here and good reputation, Opel has only one competitor, Volkswagen. Also in the resale value it should here be similarities but not in general in the price level, for the Olympia Rekord is considered to be a mid-size car with better driving performance and corresponding prestige.
He still has a clear body and has enough room for four people with their luggage even for slightly longer distances. The engine is highly praised, chassis and brakes not quite as euphoric. Very tending to oscillate, the Opel cars have become calculable curve partners.
As a minus point is noted that you have to pay additional the heating. Incidentally, this is quite common at the time. Only with the VW Beetle the (weak) heating can be sold separately not good. Also the exterior mirror is an extra. After all, the car has already so extraordinary achievements as the one key system and the automatically resetting turn signal lever. 02/14
