Construction periodSince 2004

The production of the predecessor had to be stopped in 2000 in the absence of sales success throughout. The restart 4 years later ought to be more successful. The company Opel exhibited a lot of activity to boost this car. In collaboration with the French convertible roof manufacturer Heuliez they turned a Cinderella car into a princess. While the rear became even more dynamic, the front increased clearly in attractiveness. The title 'convertible 2004' is the well - earned reward for their efforts. Of course, having a hardtop has a downside. The car has a higher weight and although the trunk capacity has remained the same, the space behind the front seats has shrunk to a maximum of 70 litres. Thus, we are dealing with a real two-seater and no longer a 2+2 coupe.

Unfortunately, also the space on the front seats is really just enough for medium-sized persons. The Opel engineers have performed a convincing job on the design of the roll bar. The vehicle has gained weight, even if one deducts the 75 kg for the driver that is now contained in the declaration of the weight. Fortunately, the engines changed, too. There is optionally a 1.8-litre engine with much more power in the lower rev range and enough reserve supply on the highway. In addition, there is a diesel engine, which provides for especially economically open driving. But also the 1.4 litres petrol engine car impresses with fuel-saving habits, typical for Opel.

If the Opel Tigra can be accused of something, then its standard dashboard, its somewhat hard spring system and the not very buckling resistant body. Additionally it may be safer, if the roof moves only with pressed button, but it is more complicated. Currently (2007), it is even uncertain whether it will remain on sale.
