It should resemble a Coke bottle, the new Corvette from 1968. That means viewed from above, a certain slenderness between the axles. That the wheels accentuated even better. But the yard-long front section seems to make a break in its rise before it reaches the windshield. The rear broadening is additionally emphasized by a hip bend upward.

Together with the pop-up headlights up front arise several joints, which need here not always be quite coherent. After all are disappeared all the harmony interfering components. Even the windshield wipers are hidden invisible under a flap in front of the windshield.

The tail must suffer from such a front. It consists basically from the tank. The is so high built-in that a rear flap would make no sense. So the luggage compartment must be loaded from inside. The two roof parts of the t-roof there also get a place. There remains a bar in the middle.

So it is with the space economy of Americans at more than 4.6 meters length, barely room for tall passengers and luggage. Thereby the transmission is locked up front on the engine. Back the box frame also around the large tank probably takes a lot of space. This makes the car but also not particularly lightweight.

Is exactly where the aim of the first criticisms after its appearance. For a car with a fiberglass construction, the Corvette should be lighter. The surcharge list still abets here with its considerable length. Now the only hope, enough engine power. And that will offered really plentiful.Confusingly, many performance data, whereto still contributes to the emission legislation at the end of the period until 1982. It brings back the fuel injection into the Corvette, but another than have had. The performance deficit, caused by the catalyst is partially compensated by some (still) more displacement.

It does not pay to complain about the consumption. Anyone choosing a Corvette knows that 20 litres/100km are possible with warily kicked gas pedal. But what he or she likes, that's a dream car for partly half the price of comparable. And if he's not driving it just in Germany, then the prestige is also alright. 12/13
