In 1982, the car is presented as 760 GLE. For seven years it has been developed. Two years before it was introduced as Volvo Concept Car. It is the expression of a successful car manufacturer despite oil price crisis. Where the view is undoubtedly addressed to USA, where Volvo meanwhile sold more cars than in the home country Sweden.
If someone speaks of angular design, he could certainly have in view this Volvo. The former chief designer Jan Wilsgaard one can hardly accuse a lack of consequence. Volvo will need decades to move from this form to the already noticeable at that time, now generally common. The advantage, however, this Volvo will recognized as such, and the box wagon as a van arises almost by itself.
The design is also pretty much the only thing allowing greater degrees of freedom. After the appearance of the newer Volvo, Volvo fans will long mourn the box shape because of their great loading capacity. 06/13
