The Lancia Ypsilon is strongly related to the Fiat 500 and shares with this the complete engine range and except the automatic transmission for the weakest model, the transmission range, too. It is longer, its wheelbase is 9 centimetres larger , thus it's slightly heavier and at the same time something more streamlined, probably because it is not linked with a historical model.

According to the number of doors the Ypsilon can be compared only with the Fiat 500L. But the is much longer and considerably more expensive.Compared with the only two-door Fiat 500 the Ypsilon remains a lucrative offer seen of the basic price (without air conditioning) although it is considered to be the nobler small car. But that becomes clear only by the surcharge list.

But the 500 can resist itself, offers in terms of colour combinations a lot and the glass roof is even available in a fixed varian, in contrast to the Ypsilon. In contrast, the perceived elegance of the Ypsilon, the has become increasingly more pleasing in design starting from Y10 in 1985 via the Y (2003). You have to look twice to notice the rear doors, only available since this version.

Whereas previously more than 100 colours were available, there are now 'only' still 17, however, the change and also may include unusual colours. Whereas previously more than 100 colours were available, there are now 'only' still 17, however, the change and also may include unusual shades. Really two-coloured, the 500 series can just inside, while the Ypsilon comes together with five two-tone variants to 600 possibilities of personalizing of its appearance.

Regarding the dashboard design, the Ypsilon can already rather compete with the Mini. The of the Fiat 500 is quite special, because even reminiscent to the past. The Ypsilon as the only still has the unfavourable to read instruments in the middle, what has changed at the Mini with the last model change. Terrific are certain inner shapings of the front seat backs of the Ypsilon.

'Silver', 'Gold' and 'Platinum' equipment point to higher requirements. Inspiring are the available rim designs. Available are again a version resulting from a connection with the women's magazine Elle (pictures 1-15) and the completely new Elefantino models (pictures 16-25) with partial coating of corresponding skin and selective surprises. As always, there is still the version in cooperation with the company Momodesign in Milan (images 26-30).

We wish the Ypsilon a good success, because after all it is the last original Lancia model, even if it's based on Fiat technology and sold even as Chrysler in some countries. 10/14
