ManufacturedFrom 1989

The name means for the manufacturer that it is connected with the discovery of a market niche. The Discovery is virtually the cost-effective edition of the Range Rover. It can be equipped with the same engine and with his later possible four doors, it resembles the Range even almost to the C-pillar.

However, the commonality ends rear, because the C-pillar is significantly stronger dimensioned. In addition, the Discovery has the characteristic rear window, reaching more deep on the left side. The reason for this is the spare tyre on the right hinged rear door.

In addition to the slightly simplified equipment, the design especially appears much more successful than at the larger brother, although with facelift, but is nevertheless already 19 years old. The raised roof with lateral skylights in the rear part has perfected.

Sunroofs are actually built to date only up front, at the Discovery is also possible one rear. By means of two left and right on the side wall folding upwards seats, one obtains additional seating areas the very back. Under the rear door is even extendable a footboard.

Steel frame with an aluminum construction is standard on Land Rover and there is also little that is new at the chassis, except for the missing levelling system. Very new at the time is the diesel direct injection engine, running a little rough, but extremely economical, in the Land Rover too. Thus, the company is one of the pioneers of the for smaller diesel engines more unusual technology. 03/14
