You've probably already noticed, that certain things can't be realised in our project. Perhaps we'll get there later. Of course, neither a permanently installed toilet nor a shower is possible. There are of course mobile toilets available and the vehicle should of course, have a waste-water tank.

The tank must be accessible from underneath and have a large opening for cleaning. Ideally, it is built into the fittings on the side, so that it can be completely removed. It is connected to the sink by means of a tube which must be coiled, it then functions like a odour-trap because there is always a certain amount of water in the tube.

Not only should the gas-cooker be easy to remove, it is also essential that it should be well ventilated. It may also be installed in such a way, that it isn't recognisable from the outside, it is important however, that after using, it can be separated from the gas bottle. Unfortunately, such systems often lack an ignition cut-off. Indeed the cooking- and washing up unit can still be made attractive and easy to clean.

There are installations, where the pressure is only built up when the fresh-water tap is turned, because simultaneously a pump is activated. The problem here is, that the contents of the pump, perhaps after washing vegetables, is more or less being imbibed, even if the amounts are small. Chemicals can be used to prevent germs and if one is not on the road in winter, the unit can be removed to avoid it freezing up.

A third battery provides the power for the water-pump, the operation of the air-heating and particularly, for the absorber-cool box. It's a good thing, that the second battery with a cut-off relay already exists. The third one, also a lead-acid battery is installed parallel. Good chargers, which also show the state of the battery-charge, can be bought in the accessory shops. If work is to be done on the electrical system, both batteries must be disconnected.

The 230V-system is very important and at the same time houses a great many safety risks. Indeed, if one installs the cupboards in such a way, that only customary electrical outlets are used and no cable-clamps at all, the same as behind or below the cupboards in the home, there shouldn't be any problems. One doesn't necessarily have to have a multiple-light-design.

Whichever way you look at it, when building the cupboards yourself, there will be visual facings, e.g., doors. In this case, the domestic jig-saw just won't be good enough. The easiest way out, is to have the parts cut to size in the local DIY store. We must however, also mention the weight problem. In the VWs e.g., the newer cupboard doors are only 5- instead of 18 millimetres thick.

Either you have to use the materials very sparingly, or you can look around at what the suppliers of complete facings have to offer. Another interesting feature is, units which can be quickly removed, should one wish to use the space for something else. Even more care is to be taken when installing a seating bench, whose mounting points and fastening belts which have to cope with enormous loads, this can't be home-made.

Should your current holiday already be over and you only want to order the new car in the beginning of spring (be careful: delivery-times may be longer if optional extras are involved), then you'll have plenty of time to plan the interior and you will know which company or which store can solve detail problems. Perhaps you'll also have the time, e.g., to visit exhibitions to get inspirations or suggestions. 05/14
