 2023 VW ID. Buzz Cargo
First of all, the rear engine is polarizing. To justify this, however, one must definitely point to the turning circle, which is very favorable for a wheelbase of 3 meters. On the other hand, the loading floor is quite high.
So high that a compartment is created in the middle between the axles (picture above), as was the case with the old T1 to T3 flatbed vehicles, for example. Although much smaller here, it doesn't serve any urgent need, just
due to the construcion design.
And so the cargo has to move squeezed between the higher floor and the height limit of standard garages. Given the weight of the car, such difficulties also apply to the payload. A little over 600 kg, more is not possible
because you have to take the upcoming long version into account.
| The Peugeot's payload can be increased to more than 900 kg. |
This results in a permissible total weight of 3 tons, which is not much room for the 3.5 tons that are crucial for driving licenses if you want a good 20 cm more length and a little more payload. And then the question of the
urgently needed optional larger battery arises.
After all, the already exist in the ID7 and there is space in the chassis too. But the weight is the problem here, which has already led to delays with the California. But again: Does the rear engine have to be where the cargo
is?
The Peugeot e-Expert has the front-wheel drive required here. Its turning circle is 12.4 m without or 12.9 m with an overhang. However, it corresponds more closely to the future long version of the ID Buzz with the
corresponding wheelbase. It is available with a similar battery capacity, a weaker motor, but also €8,500 cheaper. However, it lacks the standard LED light.
Apart from the battery being perceived as too small, the ID Buzz did not cause any major criticism. Yes, the software, but that has probably been fixed except for loading all components over the air. The price remains a point
of criticism, e.g. over €3,000 for the two-tone paintwork in our pictures. However, Peugeot has significantly higher consumption values.
