2019 Škoda Octavia

It is already the fourth generation, whereby one should actually add (of the modern times starting from 1996), because there were already four generations of Škoda Octavia from 1959 on, the first with standard drive, the next three with rear engine. Today it is the companies bestseller. The Combi is actually leading in its segment even compared to the competitors.

As with the new VW Golf, there is a total of six pure combustion engines to choose from, three petrol and three Diesel. The petrol engines have 1-litre and three cylinders, 1.5 or 2.0 and four cylinders. The three Diesel engines have two litres in different performance levels. All large combustion engines are optionally equipped with double clutch transmission, the petrol engine and the two most powerful Diesel engines also as 4x4, which is always coupled with DCT.

The 1.1 and the 1.5 litre can also be ordered as mild hybrids. The latter is also available as a natural gas engine, which is located between the two mild hybrids in terms of performance. And last but not least the plug-in hybrid based on the somewhat older 1.4-litre petrol engine. All these engines are of course also available in the Combi.

The new one finally has the long-awaited combination of both headlights on one side up to the modified grille. Its corners clearly correspond to the end of the hooks that form the daytime running lights in each of the two headlamps on one side. They always emit LED light, optionally even matrix light. Below, there are similarities to the Superb. The Octavia with its inner values is not far away from this.

With its six longitudinal edges, the hood is now more selective. Offset, fairly straight surfaces appear at the bottom of both sides. At the rear, the tailgate protrudes slightly, skilfully hiding license plate lights and rear view camera. Everything looks more tidy, but the LED tail light is different from the daytime running light in the front. The inner glass cones appear beautifully three-dimensional towards the front.

And the new Octavia doesn't go along with all the confusion about possible exhaust trim panels. The exhaust system simply ends before reaching the lower dark cover. Also the interior looks tidier, but at the expense of unusual heating operation. On the other hand, the third steering wheel clasp is not missing. 11/19
