2019 Opel Astra

Before a well-known German automobile magazine gets into a fight with its so-called 'Internet-Postillen', it should do research a little better and not always rely on the manufacturer's information. They nourishe with this attack the belief that there are advanced Opel engines working in the new Astra.

Nothing against this engine, but the new ones come from Peugeot. One would have only once briefly on the side of media.opel.com, in German language only. There the manufacturer itself presents the small Puretec engine of the PSA group. The engine there has not only the same displacement, but also bore and stroke match.

It can be assumed that the two Diesel engines also come from Peugeot. The displacement and performance data are too similar here, dissimilar to the Opel engine of the Astra of 2015. Peugeot keeps bore and stroke very secret. The performance data can of course be easily changed within limits, in small doses perhaps only on paper.

By the extensive exchange of engines and the addition of partly other transmissions we experience the Astra new. Externally there is a changed clasp in the radiator grille, which has a connection to the light signature. Also the lower valance has been changed.

Inside, we experience an eight-inch touchscreen with infotainment from the Insignia, including Apple carplay and Android car. Unbelievable how expensive normal cars have become. If one feels the base price of the Astra with almost 20.000 € as high, one compares it with the VW Golf and has to take note of 21.365 € for slightly more power. One can still be glad that both have at least one (manual) air conditioning system. 08/19
