2019 Mercedes Vision EQS

The very dark kept glasshouse is optically extended by the entire upper part of the prototype, including bonnet and grille and the rear hood up to the hinted spoiler. Below this is the silver-coloured substructure, which also describes an arch like the roof, but much more discreetly. To the front, the dividing line drops more, so that the front bonnet covers the wheels. The separation is emphasized even more by a light band.

The huge wheels with comparatively small brake disks, however, are the third determining element. The fourth is a front spoiler with a similar shape instead of a rear diffuser, but also the same design elements on the sides under the doors which are strongly retracted in the middle. Each has actual or implied air vents in the upper part and a bronze finish at the bottom.

As the name implies, this is a fully electrified S-Class vision of the future. The body is based on Mercedes' new variable luxury class platform, here with a battery capacity of around 100 kWh. The two drives at the front and rear together deliver more than 350 kW and 760 Nm of torque. A top speed of more than 200 km/h is planned.

The lighting units, which cannot be recognized at first glance, are located in the dark field below each of the three individual luminaires at the front and are represented by 229 individual stars at the rear. If required, the luminaires at the front can emit hologram-like signs into the surroundings. The lighting also includes the luminous matrix in the grille, consisting of 188 individual LEDs. The only antique part on this car, the small brand emblem on the front of the bonnet directly above the huge star in the grill, looks somewhat strange.

Once again a prototype where the doors open in opposite directions.

Mercedes compares the entire instrument panel together with the body of the front trim to a boat stern, similar to the front passengers 'embracing' with instrument panel, centre console and armrests. We will probably see some of this soon in the new S-Class. The steering wheel is not so complete anymore and seems to be retractable. We will continue to pursue this as well. 08/19
