2016 Truck Transmission
For a long time European trucks had 8 or optional 16 gears, shifted by hand or semi automatically. That has changed. Both MAN/Scania and
Mercedes for example are now equipped with 12 gears. A special machining of the gear wheels tries to achieve a still greater efficiency.
However, a fundamental change is the lack of synchronization, at least in the basic mechanism. Together with the automated shifting no longer
the friction, but the speed produced by the engine management system is responsible for the trouble-free connection of gear wheels.
Lately, the method is also applied to the range group. Inserting the system at the same time in the splitter group would be problematic.
Synchronizer rings can work parallel, the electronic method only sequentially. To handle any part of the transmission with each modified
engine speed would take too long.
Filter only in fully automated transmission.
Even with the lubrication are still exhaust regulation and energy points to pick. In a sort of 'Downsizing' the transmission oil went down in its
viscosity. It is already referred to as 'fully synthetic'. Always given in truck transmissions was an oil circulation by pump. Even here service
intervals are calculated e.g. by driving conditions. It belongs to the work of the mechanics to clean the metal mesh and the magnetic screw in
addition to changing the oil. 09/16
