2021 Mercedes EQT Concept

What kind of vehicle is this? At first glance, you could imagine the EQS as the basis. The chrome, the stars in the radiator grille and the curved light bar around it, as well as the unusually shaped panorama roof with a lasered starry sky also suggest this, don't they?

When comparing the lengths, however, it is noticeable that the EQS is considerably more than 20 cm longer, although we are dealing with the longer of the two future EQT versions. The relative modesty of the EQT is noticed in the interior at the latest, especially when we have to admit that this is a concept, which means that not all of it will make it into series production.

Of course, this boxy shape creates a lot of interior space and height. Oddly enough, this is most needed in the back for the third row of seats. You sit very high up there, much lower in the second row and at the very bottom in the front. The view from the back to the front is thus guaranteed, but there is sufficient legroom and support only in rows 1 and 2.

The two single seats at the very back can be folded down, but must be removed in order to be able to use the luggage compartment more or less completely. However, if you also remove the rear seat bench, you will probably have about 3 m3 available. And sliding doors on the left and right rear. The icing on the cake would be the folding front passenger backrest.

You've long since noticed, this is supposed to lead to an alternative to the VW Caddy. And here Mercedes seems to be clearly pushing ahead, because the Caddy is currently only available as a PlugIn hybrid. In addition, the official text, which calls this car a 'Van' and an entry for families and leisure active in the Mercedes world. So, contrary to the assumption above, it will have to be saved money.

The instruments behind the steering wheel are analog, the center display measures only 7 inches and there is no real center console either. In other words, you might like such an airy interior. Only one question remains: Couldn't the otherwise cleverly concealed van shape have been given a flatter front to take away a bit more of the air resistance so urgently to be avoided in e-cars?
