2025 Mercedes A-Class
It's really worth taking a look at the A-Class because it has a few special features. It starts with the fact that it had such a difficult beginning. Recently it has been claimed that the then VW boss Piech was the initiator of the
moose test of the A-Class in 1997.
The second generation of the high-seat car was released in 2004, until this variant was given over to the B-Class in 2012 and finally turned into an entry-level model for younger people. The fourth generation facelift
presented here took place two years ago.
And now that the former arch-enemy has finally come a good deal closer to the A-Class in terms of price, the sword of Damocles hangs over the A- and B-Class as production will cease in 2025. At least that's what the
manufacturer announced in 2022.
Currently, the official list prices apply with little difference between the compact sedan and the sedan. We would always go for the former, not necessarily because of the small price difference (350 €). The sedan has 10 kg
less curb weight and is 130 mm shorter.
However, you can currently get both models for around €3,500 less. And you have to take the diversity into account. Because all models have 7- or 8-speed dual-clutch transmissions, the four petrol engines, two of them
with 4MATIC, are hybrids and there are still three diesel engines.
Despite hybrid versus diesel, the price difference is still around €1,350. Of course, the A-Class lacks further development, especially the electric one. But Mercedes has obviously passed this on to the Smart derivatives
according to the motto: Everything from China.
However, there is still a plug-in hybrid, the 250e, which, strangely enough, is not that noticeable given the increase in prices for the higher-engined models, only €220 more expensive than the 220 d. Read more about this
model here.
It's a shame, because the A-Class doesn't look that outdated even today, even though the last facelift wasn't very extensive. At least the stars in the radiator grille are still pleasantly subtle and don't shine like diamonds.
The lights have also become smaller and are still contemporary with LEDs as standard. The hood has now been given two longitudinal ribs. That's okay.
