Lynk & Co 08

You're probably starting to become familiar with the Geely Group and its extensive relationships with German manufacturers as well. Today we're introducing one of the products from the subsidiary Lynk & CO, yes, that's the brand's official name.

As with the group's other brands, the design comes from Gothenburg, Sweden, and manufacturing takes place in China. The 08 is, in essence, already the second attempt to gain a foothold in Europe. We'll be adding the older models 01 and 02 soon.

This time, Lynk & CO plans to take the conventional route via Volvo dealers. No wonder, since the interior of the car is quite similar to that of the Volvo XC 60, except for the engine. So, the electric technology is combined with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.

For a plug-in hybrid, the battery is truly incredibly large, and the electric range is actually quite impressive. Is this still a traditional plug-in hybrid, or is it already a fully electric car with an internal combustion engine to extend the range?

Our Kona E doesn't quite reach the 85 kW charging capacity. This means you can plan longer trips using mainly electric power, because, after all, the battery's capacity can be used right down to the very last bit, which isn't possible with an electric car.

Despite being made in China, the door handles are recessed and open electrically. However, there is a manual emergency release on the inside. The question remains: How do you open the doors from the outside if the worst comes to the worst? Otherwise, the car achieves very good results in crash tests.

The panoramic roof can be opened.

You won't find any paddles on the steering wheel. All three spokes are equipped with operating elements, with a small display in front of them and a large one in the center of the dashboard, where you can also adjust the energy recovery, or, in fact, that’s the only place you can adjust it.

The manufacturer's claim of 20.8 kWh in pure electric mode naturally also hints a bit at the fact that, in any case, the internal combustion engine, together with the clutch and transmission, has to be carried along, which is a drawback of the concept. In addition, during a kickdown, a lot of power is concentrated on the front axle.
