Unfortunately, there's a snag. No, we don't mean the 3 Nm or 2 kW (3 hp) that the larger engine has lost, but rather the enormous price difference between the two engines. A closer look at the price list reveals that after paying the low basic price you will find that there is almost nothing more to be offered. No air conditioning, no bigger engine, no automated manual transmission, nothing.

It takes courage and experience to get out of the car dealership with the same price as you went in. They will tell you that the car is almost impossible to sell on the used car market, you will be flattered by the undoubtedly attractive extras. But since much is tied to the second highest level of equipment, you pay 3,000 euros before you are allowed to spend any more money.

The advice we give you is very simple. Pretend that you definitely want to order off- or online, but only order if you haven't gone soft. Because with prices starting at 15,000 euros, e-cars are already becoming attractive thanks to the subsidies. Originally we had advised to wait until the end of the year to buy them, but due to the Corona crisis, we do not expect to see more favourable prices then. On the contrary, the VW up! has even become somewhat more expensive again.
