2025 Honda Prelude e:HEV

It's such a pity. Honda, a brand we have always secretly loved, is finally coming out with a beautiful coupé after more than 20 years, at an affordable price for this category, and then this technology.

Let's stay with appearance and practicality for a moment. Despite its sleek appearance, there is still a rear seat bench, and although the car simulates a hatchback, it can be opened at the rear with a tailgate that also takes the rear, very flat window with it.

We also like the fact that it is not electrically assisted, just like the seats and door openers. Yes, we accept the argument of lower weight, but we are also pleased about the perhaps therewith intended cost reduction.

The workmanship also reflects Honda's image, and we were even impressed by the chassis and the Brembo brakes, which are somewhat unusual for this price range. But then the fun is finally over.

The combustion engine is disruptive, especially since it only achieves decent performance thanks to the early torque of the integrated electric motor. But when was the last time there was a stylish two-litre coupé that couldn't even reach 190 km/h?

Our old Golf 6 TDI was just a touch faster.

These are values for an electric car and are easily acceptable there. What does the new model actually want to be? It also has a continuously variable transmission that acts as an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission when driving. With Intermediate throttle, speeding towards the top of the speedometer at 190 km/h?

But the worst thing about all this is that there will be no ban on combustion engines, and there never has been one. But then the Japanese would only need to increase the size of their batteries and could continue to run on fuel. And according to the latest regulations, they would also receive the same subsidy in Germany as purely electric cars.
