It is the first car of a new era at Ferrari. With it, almost everything is different, e.g. with much more wind tunnel tests and the new eight cylinder. And yet or maybe because it can do a lot better than the twelve-cylinder before it, not least by 20 percent less weight. Another 100 kg less weighs the Challenge version.

Of course, an eight-cylinder as a mid engine is better capable than a twelve-cylinder, especially if it brings the same performance. The front seats move not so unnaturally far away from the rear axle and the distribution is better by a little less engine weight rear, not to speak about performance weight and costs. But it takes a long time at Ferrari and also in the development of eight cylinders, up to a change takes place here. Probably one would not have done it in the last two years without the fact of the strong collapse in sales.

The aerodynamics have been improved greatly by the many wind tunnel tests. So now the underbody to a small part of the engine and the final drive is fully covered. The exhaust system moved already upwards (fig. 5). The drive has five valves per cylinder for the first time. Take a look at the engine with the tangle of cam belts. It advances into new regions of engine speeds and thereby from its performance weight crows over the twelve-cylinder predecessors. Even at transmission changes can be found, the newly designed six-speed gearbox receives instead of open gate shifts electric gearshift paddles.
