2018 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera





A 2+2-seater, already advertised in brochures, takes the lead in performance and sporty and aggressive design. The huge opening in the front is probably necessary to cool the V-12. Behind one of the two openings below an oil cooler can be seen. In the rear, however, the exhaust pipes do not end in rear covers, but in a wire mesh between the lower part of the impact surface and carbon diffuser. Their ends are artificially enlarged by one aperture left and right, but the original pipe diameter is still recognizable.

The rear spoiler is kept relatively simple, but stands out through its shiny in contrast to the vehicle paint and seems somehow put on. The rear lights between the fender and the upper part of the impact surface are very nicely integrated, color-matched, but as functional elements they are clearly perceptible. The front lights also captivate with simplicity and beauty.


The first DBS dates from 1967 to 1972. As V8 it was two time to be seen in Bond films with Roger Moore. The production of the body was later relocated to the manufacturer. Previously, it was in the hands of Touring, the bodywork forge from Milan, where the term 'Superleggera' comes from. Here, however, the ease of sheet meant that reinforced by a skeleton of thin tubes especially at the edges, where alone they then were connected to the sheet metal. The second DBS was introduced in 2007 with V-12 and transaxle drive and 2009 supplemented by a convertible version DBS-Volante. Daniel Craig then performed the James Bond in the DBS (video below).


Without doubt a grand tourer of superlatives. Particularly interesting are the additional, rather unusual data that the manufacturer indicates. With a total of 10 mm more front track and 20 mm rear, the car is now rear 26 mm wider than the front. Of this, the additional track is 20 mm. So even the DB 11 was 10 mm wider at the rear, which has been doubled in this DBS. Why the effort, if the weight distribution is wonderful 51 to 49 percent? In addition, there are 4 steps wider tires at the rear and at maximum speed a downthrust of 180 kg.


Also you will learn something about the empty weight in different states. Always the optional lightweight construction with e.g. assuming a roof made of carbon and a titanium exhaust system, the car dry weighs 1,693 kg and wet 1.799 kg. So it takes for 106 kg of liquids on board. The unladen weight after EU-standard will then be 1,845 kg. As a precaution when comparing dry weight of one vehicle with the official curb weight of the other, there are possible 152 kg in between.
